SITE BACKGROUND
When the editors first discussed the idea back in 2001, they felt that the mature woman was largely ignored by the media, certainly as far as sexuality and relationships were concerned. They also felt that vast majority of material discussing sex was pornographic and aimed at men, and that ordinary women who wanted to discuss sex in an open, intelligent and explicit way had no forum to do this.
They also knew from personal experience that women are often cut adrift from their normal support systems when things happen in their relationships – ‘friends’ can suddenly disappear when the going gets tough, or women simply feel that their problem is just too personal to discuss with their friends that they see over the table at dinner and at the school gate. They also knew that a typical woman, if faced with a crisis, is often unable to contact her normal legal and financial contacts as they are inextricably linked with their husband’s/partners matters. So often, when women are most at need, they have to find new contacts. Therefore an important part of www.femininezone.com is giving people first rate information. And Helen and Bernie also knew that many relationship crises aren’t born out of conflict, but out of illness and problems at work, so these areas are covered too.
Men are an important part of the Feminine Zone concept. As daughters of devoted fathers, happily married to good men, and mothers to young sons, they both feel that the male psyche is often misunderstood, and that little is done in the mainstream to understand the male side of things in a relationship – they felt that the ‘all men are bastards’ approach is often the default stance. Giving a voice to men’s views and feelings is a key element in the site.
So Feminine Zone was born and the networking of contacts around the world began. Bernie and Helen have now amassed an amazing and diverse group of dynamic women and men who have a ‘tale to tell’ about their relationships, as well as an array of experts from top lawyers and sex therapists, to coaches and consultants.
